Why Lease a Horse?

Horse ownership is a major long-term commitment and we encourage anyone considering buying a horse to learn as much as they can in a safe educational environment before taking the plunge into horse ownership.  Leasing enables would-be horse owners to experience the many facets of the lifestyle and acquire the necessary tools and skills, which extend far beyond merely riding.  Buying a horse is easy -buying the wrong horse is even easier.  Selling a horse can be difficult and can take a long time.  Anyone who has the opportunity to lease for a few months before shopping for a horse of their own should take advantage of the option to "get your feet wet” and be sure horse ownership is right for them.

For many students with other demands on their time, leasing is an even a better long-term option.  Have a horse to ride at Haile Equestrian as if it were your own on select days/times each week for a fraction of the cost of horse ownership. If your child loses interest or you find you don't have the time or financial resources to maintain your lease, simply notify us and you will have no further obligations on the horse.

Lease Programs

• One day per week lease
  • Ride on 1 set session per week during the morning (9:00 am - 1:00 pm) or afternoon (2:00 pm - 6:00 pm)
  • Weekdays (Monday through Friday) - $125/mo
  • Weekends (Saturdays and Sundays) - $150/mo
• Two days per week lease
  • Ride on 2 set sessions per week during the morning (9:00 am - 1:00 pm) or afternoon (2:00 pm - 6:00 pm)
  • Weekdays (Monday through Friday) - $250/mo
  • One weekday + one weekend day - $275/mo
  • Two weekend days (Saturdays and Sundays) - $300/mo
    
• Three days per week lease
  • Ride on 3 set sessions per week during the morning (9:00 am - 1:00 pm) or afternoon (2:00 pm - 6:00 pm)
  • Weekdays only (Monday through Friday) - $350/mo
  • Two weekdays + one weekend day - $375/mo
  • Two weekend days + one weekday - $400/mo

• How we set our pricing
  • The lease is a set fee calculated from the cost of maintaining the specific horse for the year, including all its normal expenses.  These are then pro-rated into a monthly average.  Normal expenses include board, supplements, an annual veterinary check-up, annual dental care, Spring and Fall vaccinations, hoof trimming approximately every six weeks, bridle path clipping every month, and insurance.
  • One of the benefits of leasing is that should the horse be unrideable due to illness or injury, we transfer the lease to another suitable horse in the meantime.  This enables the student to continue riding, whereas a person who privately owned a horse would have no mount until their horse recovered.

Program Details

• All leases are for on-property riding only (No trail riding is permitted for the safety of our horses and riders)
• All leases require that you take 2 lessons with one of our instructors prior to beginning your lease ($50 per private lesson or $40 per semi-private lesson).
• No long contracts.  All leases are on month-to-month terms and require 30 days notice to terminate.
• 10% discount on a 6 month prepaid lease
